12th Poster Roundup 427

Well what a day yesterday was, fast sell outs, fake URL's, and another great poster.

First off we have a couple of reports from the reveal from the people that went down to Super7 in San Francisco.

Jo who has her own Lost blog at - jopinionated.blogspot.com went down and reported back, read the details below for a chance to win a T-shirt from the reveal.

"About 20 Bay Area LOST fans braved the drizzling rain to stand in line at the Super7 Store in San Francisco earlier today for the next URL reveal.

Everyone was very friendly and the anticipation was palpable. Once they opened the door at noon, we politely filed in and each picked up custom LOST gelaskins for both a 15.4" laptop and iPod Touch.

The staff at Super7 are huge LOST fans, and seemed to really enjoy the event; they gave us a little gift bag with a Super7 sticker, small notebook and very cool toy inside. After I gave them my card & custom LOST pin, they gave me a very cool tee from a Japanese artist (Gargamel) because it has the letters ARG in it (see photo).

They certainly have a sense of humor, and appreciate the effort and lengths that fans are going to in order to acquire posters and other swag. I would like to give the tee away to someone who wasn't able to join us today, so those who are interested - simply let me know via Twitter (@jopinionated).

It was great to meet all of the dedicated fans in line, and experience part of this off-season LOST adventure. Thank you all for the comments, and for following along here and on Twitter! - Jo"

Take care, and thanks to Zort70, Lottery Ticket and everyone from the LostARGS site!

Next we have Justin -

I made it to Super 7 to have a good time chatting with the clerks and fellow LOST fans (some of whom drove an hour...). Refreshed the URL a zillion times. Went through the process of logging in (I had previously bought Love Triangle). My fatal mistake, I guess, was one mis-entered password. I got all the way to the final purchase button and then blammo! 404 error. Aaaargh!!

Anyway, at least I didn't leave empty-handed... The iPhone skin is cool, the MacBook skin is going up on my wall, and (aside from the nifty swag bag they gave out, with a little notebook and a "Ghost Land" "Blowfish" figurine in a metal box), I spent the $50 I would have spent on the poster on two excellent shirts from Super7. And, perhaps most uniquely, I got a LOST fan button from jopinionated! Thanks for bringing those!

Definitely worth the trip across the Bay.

Upon further reflection: Who knew it was going to take half an hour, and then sell out in, yes, it had to be less than a minute? It was insane; I thought I had a chance, but no.

Of course, I figured in advance that being at the reveal meant giving up a little bit of likelihood of getting a poster. Mainly because I was on my iPhone on 3G, not wireless, which slowed me down a little bit. And, as I mentioned, the password flub. I might have gotten in right before the 404, had I gotten it right the first time.

But (again) it was well worth it, because instead of just not having a poster, I don't have a poster but I have all that other cool stuff and a good experience.

The store staff members were really nice; they personally understood the fanboy/fangirl phenomenon, being fanboys themselves. I did mention to them that I thought it was sort of unfair that TPTB don't open the site up to purchase at the exact moment of the URL reveal (and they actually said they could pass that feedback on to TPTB).

I'll keep trying with little hope of getting one... and in any case it's a decent way to pass the time before LOST comes back...!

Then finally lets leave the final word to Daniel Danger who popped into the comments last night -

Someone needs to do a flowchart of LOST like this one of the Ring trilogy, or has one already been done?

Everything has slowed way down, so it's time for me to go to bed! Thanks, everyone. :)

Good nite Ellen,,may your dreams bring you better health.

Let's please not start calling any fans names again just because they might think differently. Haven't we beaten the name-calling horse to the bone this month? Let's give Zort a break from ever having to call a time out again.

Anon..be sure to Twitter Carlton Cuse your sentiments.

Hey. So Zort and I talked briefly weeks and weeks ago about doing a podcast about the series, but it's so close to the end now that I think it'd be nice to get a few in by the time its over.

Obviously the mosiac cast is seperate from this, but I'd still encourage anyone that's hesitant to contribute to the mosaic podcast.

If done, it would be recorded live on TalkShoe and I'm considering (if I can get enough people together) just going ahead and recording one tonight.

It'd be great to have both Losties involved and people more familiar with the artists (perhaps some EBers).

I think, since there are 4 posters left. 4 podcasts... with the current reveal discussed each week, and then also covering each poster's reveal/sell in blocks of 4 for each podcast, would be a good way to go about it.

If I did do it tonight would anyone be interested in joining? We could record at 9pm or 10pm est... which would be 6pm/7pm pst. Anyone interested? I want a group discussion so it'd be nice to get several people involved this week... with perhaps more of an announcement for next week's podcast.

CC doesn't post here on Zort's blog to my knowledge.

MEL was saying to twitter your comments to Carlton, i'm sure he'd love that ;)

Seriously though, both Damon & Carlton have verified twitter accounts, i'm sure they're getting an earful.

I'm back. Personally, I'm not in favor of doing any podcasts until the poster reveals are over. It's too sensitive. Of course, I'm speaking as one who didn't get this last one. ;)

Congested said...

Sensitive in what sense? The podcast would be lighthearted and people would be encouraged to not dwell on drama. I think there could be a good discussion about the posters, the various reveal events, etc. :)

Congested said...

I went ahead and created the call.

I guess we'll see who shows up: http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/69702

If it doesn't work out tonight we can try again for tomorrow or something.

There is nothing wrong about not gettin it. There is nothing wrong with the frustration and disappointment that Not Getting It brings one to. After,,all..Locke had at least 3 meltdowns of frustration and disappointment before he went back to Jakes Cabin and essentially said..I give up..this ain't workin for me. If He Had Denied What Christian and Claire Instructed Him To Do..What He had to Subject Himself To..THEN,, That would Have Been WRONG. But, He did NOT Deny What He Was Shown That He Had To Do Inorder To Come To Non Frustrating and Non Disappointing END.

I am not saying any body should go hang themselves if they are still frustrated with Lost. I AM saying .. to let go of..that which Frustrates you,, and look for a way of seeing this show,,that isn't frustrating. There is a way,,and I have been suggesting it in the last few pages of posts.

" Army of Squirrels" are Carlton's words,,just as LOST is his co-production. Perhaps we are seeing some Frustration on His Part,,with the fans.

Zort--I apologize about posting a casting spoiler earlier.

Congested said...

Well I guess it was too late of a notice about the podcast. I'll try again this week and see if I can get more involved. Hopefully Zort as well. :)

Keep trying Congested, Zort was interested.

Sheesh, Carlton better watch the squirrel talk, Tom Cruise just got some really bad PR for himself calling his critics squirrels (albeit, "squirrels trapped in an electronic crisis".)

OT: MM watchers, it seems as if our little Donny is finally "all growed up" tonight. :-o

Congested: We need more notice! Try again.

Capcom and Mad Men fans: Fabulous finale!

Also, Sunday nights are no good in our house because we sort of do family night, with Dexter and Mad Men etc. (Although I guess next week we switch to The Prisoner and Dexter!)

JT said...

I'm not sure if maybe the squirrel comment was misunderstood- they actually have squirrels causing a rukus and he framed it in military terms. No humans harmed in the making of his statements.

Congested said...

Yeah I usually watch Mad Men later in the week. But good point Amy. Sunday nights may not work for some people. I think the key is a better heads up as I'm sure many people would listen in live, even if they didn't call in.

Mel- I did a little Wiki reading to try and get more of your view. Seems to me Surrealists were trying to tap into the unconscious to connect to the infinite. I think humans try to do that many ways-through religion, nature, relationships, meditation.

If I have it right, you want us to experience that connection through Lost, rather than trying to explain the show, because you think that is how Lost is intended and that it can't be explained.

What if the explanation, though, is that the island is a place where surreal experiences happen because it connects people to the infinite, and they cause them to happen? There is a book on the Lost University reading list called The Field, which tries to show that experiments support the idea of consciousness creating reality by tapping into the zero energy field that is everywhere.

The fact that they are putting out this idea through LU makes me think it will be important to the story. I may be that the island connects to The Field.

They may have said theories would be crushed in S6- but what theories? They also said that after the first episode of S6 we would have enough information to form a correct idea of what is happening-which sounds to me like more facts to support something rational rather than more unexplainable stuff, to support surrealism only.

I guess the Surrealists say that once you apply reason you have lost the experience, but it seems to me that science can connect to the infinite too. I think maybe Lost can be felt and known.

The good thing is- we are going to find out!

(Not sure what you mean about Locke- I mean if he was hanging himself -because he felt like a failure.)

JT..It is good you have begun to do some research for more understanding. The Wikipedia is a fair start. Please don't stop there. I have recommended readings in a previous post. I suggest not to "Think" about it as you read on it,,but to just open your mind to it.
Yes, Surrealism isn't the only " State of Mind" that reaches for the Infinite. Surrealism goes about it a different way than most others tho. Liberating the Mind from all its anchors, freeing the mind of all its encumbrances, getting outside the box of institutionalized parameters,,means going pass..what we think..all the way to How we Think and Perceive. The revolution of the Mind returns one to a unified being, not conflicted, and thus at peace with itself and eventually with the world.

The Imagination is the Surrealists Infinity. Accessing the Imagination requires a free and unencumbered mind. Sounds easy, but is a lot more difficult than it sounds. Letting go of the way you have been taught since childhood , on how you should think and perceive,,is required and the way we think and perceive is one habit that is hard to kick. But with small steps it eventually comes. Transcendental Meditation requires a " clearing of the mind" and is not a bad exercise to know of to help with the Surreal.

The Surrealists also continues into the Imagination. What one finds there is not the end, but only a beginning. It is from what we find in the Imagination and create from/with that is what becomes one..answers the age olde question plaguing Mankind,," Who Am I?".Not everything you find in your Imagination sticks..What sticks and is further created from becomes You. And even over Time, one may let go of creations for another..quite natural to be in a state of ever exploring...the Desire.

Yes, Rational Thought Process is the bane of Surrealism. It is seen as enslaving the mind to inside the box habitual thinking and perceiving. Its an encumbrance,, that allows one to be fooled by Illusions. Its a Trap that allows one to be easily manipulated by...if you can figure out what X is going to be equal to..then you can manipulate the formula so that X always turns out to be what you want it to be. Rational Thought is for building bridges, going to the moon,,etc,, not for delving into what it is to be a Human Being. I am NOT a number. The insistence that we are rational beings denies a large portion of what it is to be a Human Being..curtails our potentials and talents ,,The Who We Are..found in the Imagination, is a Illusion that is nothing more than a form of Self Defeatism...and..turns one away from realizing the infinity of Love.

Enough for now. I can only suggest to keep researching. Much more to Surrealism than the Wiki.
