The LOST Art of Gallery 1988 285

By this point, we have seen all of the DCAAPB prints. Here is all of the other art work shown at Gallery 1988 last night. I'm going to try to go back tomorrow, when it is a little less crowded, and get some better pictures, plus the names, prices, and availability of all the art.

UPDATE: You can find all of the featured art, with descriptions, prices, and availability at the Gallery 1988 Lost Underground Art Show blog.

@Pessimistic, yes, I realize the difference. Again, no need to be rude.

PessimisticLines said...

That was rude? Please explain.

Tess315 said...

Amy
I don't think PessimisticLines was being rude.
I'm sure you don't mean it and probably don't realize it but sometimes your posts come across as rude. Since we can't hear the tone in which you say it.

"We know for a fact see what I mean? I hope you take this in the spirit it was intended. Just trying to explain not trying to be mean.

Amy Lynn said...

Yeah, nevermind. I think everyone's a bit cranky today.

maven said...

Morning all...still floating on air. I posted pics on my FB site: Hope this LINK works for you.

I noticed on the tag of the Locke t-shirt that they are a limited edition of 815! I got #215. Don't know if that means once 815 are gone that's it!

No comment any more on the line issue!

thorsten said...

I mailed Michael John the Dan Lydersen Esau Gallery. He replied:

wow nice, definitely influenced by the Linder Gallery...

Tess315 said...

Also I have horrible punctuation and sometimes poor grammar. Not to mentiion spelling.

ChrisL said...

Absolutely, there is no need to be rude. Funny how it only happens here on a reveal day.

Amy, the point I was trying to make was that I think ABC/Disney would get themselves into an awful lot of legal bother after making that statement for the world to see if they then allowed additional print runs. I seem to remember the general view being that the artists probably have 50 or so each to sell themselves.

That'll be an interesting experience to witness the day that goes down!

Tess315 said...

Amy
Understandable. :)

maven
I've been to your FB page this morning nice pictures.

PessimisticLines said...

OK, we cool.

ChrisL said...

Maven, fantastic pics! Pleased to hear you're still high from it all.

thorsten said...

Hah, Maven with Doc Jensen. Awesome ;))

Amy Lynn said...

Great pics, maven!

melbrs said...

So still not confirmed time for the reveal? Or did I just miss it (it = the time, not the print itself)?

reAnimated said...

Cool pics Maven. Looks like you all everybody had a fantastic time.

melbrs said...

Yes, very cool pics Maven!

Drama said...

entirely agree. Also, in 14 hours, the pursuit of posters will be lost forever :(

ChrisL said...

I think my pursuit of prints may continue though, This Twin Peaks print arrived today. Really stunning print.

Nicole said...

ChrisL: I love Tiwn Peaks! Excellent print!

reAnimated said...

Oh wow Chris, thats a badass print.

Sam G said...

No Man Is An Island is probably my favorite. Memento Mori second - the colors are so vibrant and I could look at it again and again and find new things very much like Linder's Gallery.

futureself said...

That is a really cool print Chris! Who's the artist?

I'm hooked on collecting prints too (3 DD's to name a few) and will continue after this is over.

RobPerrin said...

ChrisL - Think we have similar taste. I almost went for that one too.

ChrisL said...

It's a Tim Doyle. He also did a stunning Bladerunner the original of which sold out, (as is the Twin Peaks now, I was just finding the link for you guys to buy), however the Bladerunner line art variant is still available here which is pretty cool.

ChrisL said...

@Rob, I guess we do ;-)

Hey Guys!! I had so much fun last night, and met so many amazingly cool Losties!!!

I got a poster, and it was signed by Darlton (YIPEE!), and got to talk with Greg Nations and Daniel Danger. They all were so incredibly nice. The art looked great, but it was so packed in there that I plan to go back later this week and have a proper look at it. I tweeted a bit under "fancfl", and Zort kindly posted a nice pic of me and TRoss - my line-mate and new Lostie friend. I may also be included in the official Lost podcast, but we'll see. I just had the best time, and I love this whole experience and everyone involved - including everyone here!

I have to work today, but I hope to catch up on all of the assorted coverage here and elsewhere this evening.

Guys, I've been sitting here for over 5 hours refreshing the print page. I wish I knew if I was wasting my time.

Amy Lynn said...

Nicole, yes, you're wasting your time till at least 3pm EST... the bag said Wed PM PT. It won't be noon there for another hour and 45 minutes.

Nicole said...

Thank for replying Amy Lynn. Do you know what time 3pm EST is in GMT?

Amy Lynn said...

8p GMT

...at which point I'm at a school function until at least 1PM PT. What's the betting it goes up at noon, and I'm royally screwed...

Patrick said...

John Paul... I won your roomies auction. Is he selling any of the others?

reAnimated said...

Ben, just your luck it will be 1:08 PT. :p

Nicole said...

Cheers again Amy Lynn! :)

I'm still nervous to leave the laptop though... you never know what might happen!

Drama said...

I will probably juuuuust be home by 1:08! it's nice - traditional English quaint carol service in a church with all the kids, but it's going to run long, and I need to get away quick!

TVGuide.com: We hear there are some little hints in the final poster. What should fans take away from viewing this?

Cuse: I think you should look in there and there will be a couple of clues to the final season that are embedded in that poster. It will make a lot of sense once you've actually seen a few episodes of the show.

Lindelof: You should look at the poster and think of the things you've seen on the show, and then whatever else is left, that's a clue for Season 6.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

well, I have plans between 5-8:3 EST so GoMerch better not drop the poster then,or I will have to throw a statue at them. Oh yeah don't have one of them either.

reAnimated said...

Interesting bit about the clues. I still am not seeing much. :(

PessimisticLines said...

@ChrisL - Was it you who got the last Twin Peaks from Nakatomi? I sat on the fence about that one forever; probably because I never saw the show but loved the print. Enjoy it.

ChrisL said...

PessimisticLines, I doubt I got the last. I ordered it around 4 or 5 weeks ago. These things take so long to get to the UK.

ChrisL said...

Until LOST came along Peaks was the best TV I'd ever seen.

dylansdad said...

Ben, I will also be singing Christmas carols with kids at a school function until 1:00 PST.

It would be so against the spirit of the holidays to drop the poster while we are singing with little children, don't you think? I could just barely make it to a computer by 1:08, and that seems like such an appropriate time.

lostsailors said...

It's so surreal seeing these here! I was just THERE! That tiny series was my favourite. I wish I literally had more than 40 dollars to my name right now, because I really desired one. My favourite was that hexagonal one- it was soo beautiful.

reAnimated said...

Why is there no way to check your profile on dcaapb.com anymore?

Lisa-Maladylis said...

because they made it all secret lol there hasn't been a way to check it since the 14th poster I think. no way to make a new account either so only those with a account can get in. (when it comes live that is)

Unknown said...

I was kind of hoping the final poster would have been a water cooler moment from the show "Heroes". oh well.

Amy Lynn said...

reAnimated, DCAAPB is Milo's site.

But you can't check your profile in the main site because they've been shutting it down in between reveals for the past few posters so more people can't sign up.

reAnimated said...

Yeah i know about Revs, just abbreviating. lol sry for confusion.

Well i ask, because those to be unnamed (others) at EB have claimed to have a way as of about 30 min ago and are apparently PMing it to each other.

Amy Lynn said...

The EB people will basically say anything to get a reaction here. They think it's funny. ;)

reAnimated said...

@Jeffery, lawl.

reAnimated said...

Ah. What children.

I find THAT funny.

LostiePat said...

Hello all - loved last night, just an amazing experience. I was back and forth between LT and the Rev - their coverage made me feel like I was right there with them!

I got into this game way too late (that is, no Go!Merch account), so if anyone buys #16 and wants to sell it, please let me know. I'd rather buy from a fellow Lostie than from an unknown e-bay seller.:-)

ChrisL said...

The EBers are likely to be disappointed when it goes live unfortunately.

Mystery Hipster said...

What generally the going rate for one of these posters?

Unknown said...

why is that chrisl?

Ginger said...

@ ChrisL - I love that Twin Peaks print. U r so lucky to have it. Totally agree about being the best TV up until LOST.

John-Paul said...

@ Patrick

Glad you got my roommates Swan print.

He only bought one other, Jacob's Cabin and he wouldn't even sell that to me. He traded it for a really badass and rare Italian Nine Inch Nails/Tool print.

Unknown said...

Malleus bores me

ChrisL said...

Edward, Not in general, I was referring to someone believing they had managed to set up a new account. unless they have found a back way into the DCaaPB trade area which no-one else has managed to find, they will likely be disappointed when they enter the account details they think have been set-up.

dylansdad said...

Oreo, these posters tend to really drop in price on the secondary market. Most of us don't even bother trying to get it directly because they are so much cheaper on eBay a few weeks later.

Amy Lynn said...

@ChrisL, Edward is EB. No need to respond.

Unknown said...

Hello all! Just got all caught up. Quite the show last night; mad props to our live casters. I wish I were there but my wallet's glad I wasn't.

To answer some questions from posts and posts back:

@PatMC, the hieroglyphs in the clouds are not a new sequence, but rather the Swan countdown timer. There may be new sequences somewhere in the poster, though, I wouldn't discount it.

As for the identity of the plane in the upper right - that is definitely NOT Oceanic 815. Why? It's got four engines. Unless they got lazy with their plane reference (which is possible), that can't be the twin-engine 777-ER that 815 used, nor, IIRC, Ajira 316. It looks like a 747, probably a 747-400.

On the art:

Ben with Smokey on a leash is ADORABLE. I would totally buy that if I weren't impoverished and thousands of miles away. Also whoever that is in the control room - Horace? Desmond?

The Memento Mori painting is incredible, and I'm sure we'll be spending forever identifying every little item therein. Is it suggesting that Esau is Smokey? Smokey seems to trail off into his hair... I haven't been an advocate of the Esau-is-Smokey theory thus far, but maybe this is confirmation. Or maybe the artist just ran with it, who knows.

Random art trivia: a "memento mori" is actually a specific genre of painting. The phrase literally translates as "remember you must die" and designates a particular kind of painting that is specifically meant to remind the viewer of their own mortality and often point out the suffering they will endure if they break religious commandments (i.e. you're going to hell, that sort of thing). Look it up on Wikipedia, it's fascinating. So is Esau the punishment? He certainly looks threatening enough...and we've seen Smokey as judge before...

I think the person off to the side in the crash scene in 16 has got to be Ben, for the same reason I think the person in Jacob's Cabin is Ben - he's got a messenger bag :D

Other things that are amazing: the No Man Is An Island painting (would DEFINITELY buy that, or a print of it, or it in any form I could). And the statues. OMG. Not even painted, I just desperately want one. They are so cool!

Ginger said...

@ ChrisL - The owls are not what they seem.

Why don't the people that took those bookmarks home w/o noticing the numbers on the back post those here, now. That would be awesome of you all everybody;) Hope they didn't go out, get wasted, & loose them:s They might not even be awake yet if they did go out & partay all night:p

Unknown said...

Oh man, didn't see this until I posted, but - @lostsailors! You made it down! How was it?!

ChrisL said...

I know Amy, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt today following a couple of very rational posts over there from long termers and admins yesterday.

ChrisL said...

And....... He blew it.

LA X

lostsailors said...

illix! I was thinking of you! I didn't get anyone near a statue, I think it was just for the first peoples in line, but LotteryTicket let me hold hers. It was really neat.

If you go over to our other favourite comment land on the post about the gallery, I was telling some other people there how it was. It was SO insanely crowded, I got in enjoyed the one side of the gallery then basically smashed into a corner for the remainder of the evening, he he. It was a good corner though, because most of the artists ended up over there, so it was fun hearing what they had to say about things.

The hexagonal was my favourite piece, I would also buy a print of it, just some visage because I was that enchanted. It was so beautiful, I wish I had a couple of hundred dollars to spare. Or thousands to buy the whole lot! Haha.

Ginger said...

Nice portaits thorsten, thanks for the link.

thorsten said...

My pleasure, thanks Ginger!

In the LA X pictures, Claire is a ghost!

Unknown said...

@lostsailors, did you see how much the No Man Is An Island painting actually was? If it's not an insane amount (and still available - I have no idea how these things work), there's a slim but still extant possibility that I may be able to get someone to buy it as a Christmas present.

Sam G said...

I think all the paintings that had the little red dot showed that they were sold. There were red dots by many of the painting but several of the little cartoons were still available and some of the others. No Man Is An Isaland had a dot by it.

Sam G said...

NMIAI was $480 I seriously would have thought of buying it but for the red dot.

futureself said...

Thanks to Ramhatter for being awesome!

Zort70 said...

Hi all, back home so I've created a NEW POST for some closeup shots.

lostsailors said...

I did, but I can't remember now. It was more than a couple hundred dollars- that much I know. I believe it was sold by the end of the evening though. Little red dots on the piece's info means they've been sold (at least, that's what I was told in case I am totally off!).

Sam G said...

As far as original art I think everything was fairly priced, just out of my range, except for a few.
