A Little Extra From Tim Doyle 327

I feel like I've been here before but now we have a second follow up to Tim Doyle's The Numbers poster. Patmc has sent in this picture of the extra doodle on the poster and a copy of the letter that Tim sent out with the poster.

Look closely in the letter if you are interested in more art from nakatomiinc.com

p.s. Patmc also did some checking and asked Tim for permission to post the letter and the discount code just for us Losties.

Well that 20% was just the push I needed to finally pull the trigger on the b&w "White Dragon". Would prefer to have gotten the color version, but those were sold out before I even saw it. Thanks patmc for finding out it was ok for everyone to use the discount code.

Morning everyone. Let's get a list/catalog of all of the quotes included in the Mr. Cluck doodles. Mine says, "Cluck! Cluck!"

What was the "freebie" print?

Martyn said...

@Rorschach...

I was only kidding about rushing to gallery88 during my stop over. That's my duty free time! ;)

@Lisa, ChrisL, Anne, Thorsten and Amy Lynn...

For reasons unknown, who are your favourite characters off the show?

futureself said...

Seeing as I wasn't asked I feel obliged to reply Martyn ;)

Des, Hurley, Faraday....and in defiance to Mel....Eloise!

DvdBos said...

Wow.
I just felt in love with "Hummed as Prayers In Secret".

It's stunning. It might be my first non-LOST buy.

I do apologise futureself. I'll just redirect that question to everyone, it does sort of seem rude.

Who is everyones favourite character/actor?

I know Martyn...I was just kidding ;)

And I forgot to put Ben in my favourite character list.

What about me?

Thorsten ya gotta say NEW POST. lol
There's been 2 new posts since I went to bed.
But I'm probably the only crazy person that leaves their computer on 24/7. I just pick up where I left off the next morning and I don't look at the main page until I'm caught up or see new post.

Anyway Good Morning all. Hope everyone has great day.
Now back to catch up.

Martyn said...

Awww, wanted that robocop piece but it's all sold out. Such a shame too. Was awesome! May get the moon prit though.

Futureself...

What about you?

Lisa-Maladylis said...

@Martyn, my all time fav was Charlie now I guess it's Sawyer and Hurley. I love their dry whit and acting. Faraday was another fav of mine.

Drama said...

My fave characters, in rotating order, are Faraday, Ben, Locke & Sawyer.

ChrisL said...

Martyn, AliceL drives me to distraction with that very question almost daily (along with the question, "Has Martyn got his Walt's Kidnapping yet", thank the lord that one is over)!

It's a tricky one to answer as it changes with each episode and each re-watch but I think overall, for me it has to be a close call between Sawyer and Hurley, both for the humour. And Juliet for reasons I won't go into here. AliceL currently votes for Faraday, presumably as she intends to be a physicist!

ChrisL said...

Sayid'sgirl, thanks for the hint on the NEW POST. I may have waited there all day wondering where the hell everyone had gone!

DvdBos said...

My LOST poster is still missing.
Has anyone living in UK/Europe received it?

I'm tempted to order something else from nakatomiinc.com using that discount. Result Tim!

Which reminds me, I got Tim's Twin Peaks - 'En Los Arboles' back from the framers last weekend. I'll do pics, it's a stunner.

StrobeJams said...

Awesome reporting guys... especially the numbers post is very informative. Wondering if there's such a thing like a full "001/300" set ... I assume it probably went to Lindelof or Cuse... or the LOST writers room.

But still ... there is the "29x/300" numbers riddle that went unsolved.... hmmm. Inquiring minds want to know!

Tess315 said...

My favorite characters, hmmm let's see.
Sayid of course is first. Desmond, Hurley, Charlie, Sawyer, Frank those five guys I like pretty much equally.

Then Sun, Jin, Rose, Bernard, Juliet (whom I hated at first), Eko, Dan (who got on my nerves at first),Miles, (whom I didn't like at first)this group could probably go in any order too.

I liked Shannon and Ana because I thought they were both misunderstood but they didn't have enough story to be higher on the list. I would put Michael in this group too. I hated his girlfriend for taking his son. I liked Libby and Claire but not enough story. Walt was interesting but not enough story.
I didn't hate or like Nikki and Paulo they were just there and then gone. Again not enough story. Cindy I don't like or dislike (but I think she has always been an Other)I liked Danielle, same thing not enough story.

Boone was annoying.
I think that leaves Charlotte, Ben (I really have a hard time liking him because he's not trustworthy), Kate and last but not least Jack and Locke. I'm not sure which one annoys me more. I know two of the 3main characters and I don't like either one of them. lol Sorry.

Tess315 said...

ChrisL
You're welcome. :)

Unknown said...

@ Martyn - My fave character keeps on changing.

Season 1 - Locke
Season 2 - Henry Gale
Season 3 - Charlie
Season 4 - Daniel
Season 5 - Jack (in the first half) and Sawyer (in the second half)

For the record, I reckon that Desmond has the BEST back story.

@ ChrisL

I got into these about 2 years ago. It becomes a bit of an obsessive hobby. It started when I accidentally stumbled across the Jay Ryan poster for Ferris Buellers Day Off on ebay.

I loved the artistic style and feel and the fact that I could pander to my inner nerd and put up a poster of one of my favorite films in a contemporary manner. I was also taken aback by the sheer quality when I held them.

It sort of snowballed from there. More Jay Ryans (Check out his portfolio), then Brad Klausen (see his Tron), then Todd Slater, then Leia Bell, then Dan McCarthy, then Nate Duval, then Shepherd Fairey, then Daniel Danger and so on. Before I knew it, I had become a poster snob.

Separate to this, Lost is my favorite show, so when to two hobbies converged, I was like..."Yes!" before I realized that it was going to make it a lot harder to get the prints. Then I though..."bugger".

The other thing I love about poster collecting is that its so affordable (Lost prints aside). I have a portfolio file with about 50 prints stored flat and I rotate the 10 odd slots on my walls so that it always looks fresh and exciting.

The biggest issue now, as a UK collector, is the import charges, on top of the shipping cost. With the tax and the the new rip off Royal Mail handling charges, unless the print is under 25 dollars, then it costs more in tax and charges than to actually buy it.

The charges are starting to alter my buying. The last print I bought was the Alias band poster by Daniel Danger (from Posters and toys). Its 25 dollars, and in the process, saves me 20 pounds in import charges because it falls under the magic 18 pound import threshold.

I was even thinking our writing to the artists to suggest a $25 price tag for UK buyers and instead beef up the shipping price. It will save the buyer a fortune and generate more sales for them.

Its so annoying!

ChrisL said...

ioioos, thanks for the background. It must have been one hell of a day when you realised there was to be a LOST series of prints!

I've been amazed at some of the print prices, for some truly outstanding art. Actually makes the original $50 for this series seem quite expensive comparatively never mind the current drops. NOt that I'm complaining. The chance for the artists to earn some real money must be quite a relief for them and I'm sure they'll be investing it in producing more great work.

So on The Hatch, what do you think a UK buyer is going to be hit with on customs charges?

Just Thinking said...

About D Dangers mailing list- I also am on it but did not get any mail - I always check Tiny Media Empire and saw the info there. Thorsten- did you get an "announcement" email from him? I've missed chances because of silly computer problems- and JC is the poster I really want- so just checking if you could be so kind.

I'mAnnie- I just got DD's "WHY" poster yesterday- is that the one you are looking at? I can tell you in person it is like inky purple just before dark, and your eyes adjust to the light while you look at it so you can see more detail in the street, just as though you were outside away from the indoor lights. You are seeing by the light of the street lamps, the car lights and the lighted house windows. It's really rich.

Can you send me pictures with and without flash? That would be very appreciated. dvdbos@gmail.com

You didn't receive the newsletter because it falls right into your spam folder :(

Gmail did this to me too.

Just Thinking said...

ImAnnie- The Why poser is a very vibrant dark purple and doesn't go with my mostly pale home- but I'm going to find a place for it because it is amazing. I'll try to do some pictures after work today.

Yes, thanks, - the email was in spam- although I had gotten one before in the inbox OK. Thanks Thorsten too. Can anyone tell me how to mark that address as not being spam permanently?

Anonymous said...

@ChrisL

I think it will be in the region of £26. Only half of that is the import tax. The rest is made up by the courier "handling charge".

Sometimes you get lucky and it is not stopped (most often if it comes via a courier with a full delivery service both sides of the Atlantic).

The new handling charge is making importing almost pointless. Very annoying if the item you are after is not available in the UK.

Just Thinking said...

@andalone- love the box. It is time for us to start saying "Oh yeah- the bookmark was Arizona- remember Sawyer's glasses? And the Widmore board-that was Glasgow-Sophieboy went to that one."

thorsten said...

I guess it was the subject line, JT.
To declare a sender after it got filtered out as non-spam should do the trick…

Just Thinking said...

@Thorsten-I marked the one in the spam folder as "not spam" and moved it-think that's enough?

Unknown said...

@ Just Thinking

Just add the email address from the DD email to your address book. That's always the safest way to do it.

Sam G said...

I'm on gmail and the DD didn't go to my spam folder.

Add the email address to your list of contacts. Just moving it from your spam box doesn't usually do it.

The more I look at Walt's Kidnapping, the more I'm convinced it is the most undervalued (going by eBay prices) print in the entire collection.

DvdBos said...

My favourites:

DESMOND, DESMOND and DESMOND i think.

Oh, DESMOND too.

Real one, in descending order: Desmond, Faraday, Terry O'Quinn (...), Hurley, Miles, Alpert.

DvdBos said...

I TOTALLY agree about Walt's Kidnapping. It's an AMAZING piece.
The best for me, with Smokey and LOST.

Amy Lynn said...

@Dan, yes, I agree with you. WK is the only print that really turns into something else under a different light, so it's sort of like a double print.

ChrisL said...

ioioos, thanks for that. Around £26, that's harsh. Perhaps it will sneak through.

Martyn, we were initially not big on Walt's Kidnapping but once we actually saw it in person and particularly when it returned from framing, we were truly smitten. One of our faves now, hence our excitement that you have it. You will love it!

Tess315 said...

Oops thanks Amy I knew there was someone I was leaving out. Penny she wouldd probably go in my second group. Although her and Desmond go hand in hand.

@andalone: love the shadow box!!!! and the F5 key is also an awesome inside joke!

regarding the current post about the series printing, I wonder if any of the 1-50 or the 300+ numbered prints are showing up on eBay. While it may seem like bad karma also, at least those were out of our hands whether we wanted to or not. Another possibility is maybe some of these will show up eventually throughout the year or even further in the future.

I'm sure it has been discussed somewhere I'm not aware of but....

What framing solution are most people going for?

And for UK'ers, have you found a good price and place for imperial measurement frames?

Martyn said...

Ikea ribba frame for a cheap option but I'm using a local gallery to frame mine. Costing me about 65-75 a time so I only do one a month. My guy is a really wise guy when it comes to framing so I trust him completely with my prints. Yes, even drymounting. Means I can't sell them for uber money and can keep them forever!!!

maven said...

Morning all!
@Andalone: Awesome shadowbox display. I just have all my mementos from this lying around...gotta organize them somehow, too!

@Martyn: My favorite character is Ben...just because he is so devious and manipulative and I find that so interesting as he works his ways through his schemes. Michael Emerson is just fabulous!

@Thorsten: In theory one should comment in the post that the comment is about. But, in reality, that never happens! Most of us congregate to the top post as soon as it's up, no matter what the topic! LOL

Anonymous said...

@ Martyn

I have 15 old frames at the moment, mostly the std 18x24 inch to fit most prints perfectly. I have the odd one (like a Dan McCarthy) which has a mount.

But I was thinking of stepping up when I get the Lost ones on the wall.

I looked at Ikea ribba the other day, but of course they are not imperial or scalable on all sides to fit a print in without uneven mount sides.

I cant decide whether to continue with 18x24 snug frames, or to go slightly bigger and go with a mount for effect.

As my old prints are in snug fit frames, I haven't had to worry about mounting issues. So it makes changing over a doddle, but I worry I'm not doing some of them justice.

DvdBos said...

Drymounting or just framing?
This is the problem!

thorsten said...

Why drymount? I taped my posters on the wall with black gaffer. Perfect.

Anonymous said...

Well I have been simply framing 18x24 prints in 18x24 frames without the need to mount in anyway and they still look and feel brand new when I change them over (even after a year).

I know there is a snobbery around some framing types, but a don't like the idea of sitting a $25 dollar print in a $100 frame.

On my last visit to the Richard Goddard Gallery, I noticed they have all their poster prints displayed in exact fit frames with no mounts or boarders like I have.

Maybe I should go with a mixture of frames! :)

DvdBos said...

Gaffer?

Martyn said...

ioioos...

Yes, the sizes are in cm but I just cut the provided mount to size. Worked brilliantly with my Dharma Van, and am reluctant to take it to get properly framed as it looks good as it is. But next to my professionaly done frames, yeah, they look rather crap.

Um, please don't link images that are not safe for work. K? Thx.

Unknown said...

@Martyn: Oh maaan hard question! LOST trivia? No problem. Quantum physics? Let's go. Fave character? Not so much. lol.

I was big into Hurley (still love him!) and Charlie first, partly for being Dom Monaghan fan already. Had a friend he hit on way back at SDCC (she wasn't interested). Not why I was a fan XD I was an early-adopter LotR fan, line party for Fellowship in NYC. Then he wound up tied with Des, loved his mini-arc with Penny. Later-seasons fave is definitely Dan, my unlikely choice for "man on island I'd be most likely to attempt hitting on". Charlie likes blondes (and Dom likes hot Asian girls dressed as vampires).
Course I also really like Sawyer as a character, and think he was best w/Juliet too. Kate, Locke and Jack I want to reach through the TV and smack around!

But the win maybe goes to Ben, not sure if he's my "favorite character"... initially REALLY wanted him to die in a fire. Once while sleep deprived I realized that my favorite character in the Disney animated Robin Hood when I was a kid was the snake, and that might be why I like Ben. "Ben: because I like cartoon snakes"? I have a fascination with good villains and morally ambiguous people.

MORE INFO THAN WANTED *dies*

@thorsten re: NEW POSTings: I think we're like moths to a flame and just keep moving up. No need to make it more complex than that.

ChrisL said...

I spent a while looking for suitable frames and couldn't find anything that I thought did justice to the prints I was buying. That's why I ended up at a local framing shop and it's been a great experience. The guy has been framing for 40 years and he's seen it all yet every time I turn up there he's like it's the first print he's ever seen. So enthusiastic about MY enthusiasm, it makes it a real treat. Sure it's a little more expensive but the guy will spend as long as I want, recommending colours and shapes and trying different looks plus he has a myriad of frames to choose from. As Martyn says, better to just do one when you can afford it but have the real deal, especially for these amazing prints.

ReverendMilo said...

@ChrilL -

That's a great point. I just got my first 'professionally' framed poster back a week ago and it looks amazing. It's a concert poster so not Lost, but its just so nicely done and i could never have put it together myself.

that said its very expensive even though you could argue its not THAT much more than buying all of the pieces yourself. I'm already saving up to frame my Rousseau's Transmission now.. might take a while before I can actually get it framed properly. :)

I believe there are some good sites where you can essentially build it online and they mail you the pieces which is supposed to be a bit cheaper. I need to look into that some more...

Morning, all!

@Congested - my freebie print from Tim Doyle was a "gig" poster for a group called the "Detroit Cobras". Pretty cool print (edition of 66)... especially since I got the "extra special" edition... that happens to have one of Mr. Doyle's hairs stuck on the print! LOL!

@smellysocks - My "doodle" said "Eat less chicken"... :-)

I wasn't able to pick up my miter saw this weekend, as the store was out of the one that I want. So the framing project won't start for a couple of weeks yet... (sigh) I guess that's OK though, as I'm still in the process of "flattening" all my prints, so hopefully that will give them all more time to un-curl.

My favorite Lost character? Locke. He's been my boy since day one on the island. I'm just PRAYING that we get Locke back this season... and NOT "Flocke"! If the timeline reboots, we should get real Locke back... but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. After Locke... probably Hurley, and Frank Lapidus.

Unknown said...

@ AFriend

A really cool Vincent poster would have made my day... :)

Des would have to be my favorite character. His episodes "Flashes Before Your Eyes" and "The Constant" are easily my two favorite episodes. I still tear up in "The Constant"

Other favorites are Daniel, Miles (although I didn't like him initially), Locke, and Sawyer.

Eugene said...

I think the killer watercooler is "we have to go back". How it might be interpreted for art is not obvious. I would love to see it.

The killer missing moments for an imaginary next 16 prints for me would be....

We have to go back
Ben turns the wheel
Not pennys boat
The killing of Alex
Ben visits Widmore
The incident
Smokey hates the French
Patchy can see you
Daniel walks into the other camp
Smokey judges Ben
Jacob and Nemesis
Eloise the rat
Miles meets dad
Christian speaks for Jacob
Sayid works for Ben
Richard takes Ben to the Temple

So Locke's Secret is really in demand. It still reached over $1500 and there are more unique bidders than last time.

I see one poor guy, r***m(157) has now tried twice to get it at nearly the top price and failed. Bet he gets the next one. He's got money burning a hole in his pocket.

I should tip him off. If he gets The Crash, I'll swap it with him for my Locke's secret!

Unknown said...

A lot of the WCMs, for example the Looking Glass . . . if I had been given that as an assignment, I don't know how I would interpret it differently. I mean, that image is SO iconic for Lost fans that I'm not sure where else you could go with it. Maybe I'm too limited in my creative thinking though.

Obviously Rousseau's transmission was shown from an angle that emphasized how isolating the new information was; a number of elements were abstracted from Walt's kidnapping . . . I'm just wondering if some of the WCMs would be harder.

I doubt that anyone here attending the HI premiere, or if they are lucky enough to receive a bottle, would post information knowing that some members don't want to know.

Eugene said...

@ioioos - If I had an extra Crash I'd take you up on that.

there is some talk that there will be a second run of prints after the season ends, commemorating seasons 4-6. Did we cover that here? if not, the current run covers WCM from seasons 1-3. I'd love to see another run of these in a year, with a different mix of artists. I don't think it would denigrate the value of the current run (it may even add to it). A run of fifteen would be nice.

@Anne

There are so many interpretations that could be used, it would be fantastic.

"Not penny's boat" could look cool as a painting of a Desmond, seen from Charlie's eyes through his fingers.

Similar reverse angles can look cool. "The killing of Alex" could show a quivering Ben looking through the curtains, with just the back of Alex's head in the foreground.

"The incident" could be ultra modern with three symbols, like paper rock scissors, but instead be paper(Juliet's hand), rock, detonator...cutting the time line.

The possibilities are endless! :)

I love that everyone has cannonized The Crash as "The" must have print. For those flippers reading, if you get it, get rid of it quick. They won't be fetching the silly money they currently are for more than a few months.

Amy Lynn said...

@Ben, I don't think it's the best print, but it's certainly the best, how would you say it, um, it's the best LOST oriented poster by the the better known artists.

Drama said...

I agree, and it's one of my top two (I couldn't pick a fave) I just get saddened by the fact I'll get nowhere near it, as the longer this ARG rumbles on, the more "investors" we attract. The red-hot news we provide is a double edged sword, and means we can also lose out. I'm probably pre-emptively despairing, but still... My top three still haven't had their second drop, so I'm still all to play for!

Anonymous said...

I agree Amy. I would probably put The Crash at number 4 or 5 of my favorites.

Problem is, I still want my top 5 so its a shame its this one.

But I'm sure I will get it once the panic subsides. I'm just impatient!

Martyn said...

@Ben...

In case you missed it, Thorsten asked JFuller to reserve her Walt's Kidnapping for me, which they said yes to, but as I just bought it off of eBay, I asked JFuller to move my reservation to you, if you want it that is.

Drama said...

that's super kind, but I no longer need it. I've done some organising and I have a lead on one elsewhere that I'm committed to. Thanks so much for thinking of me though! I now have lined up at least one of the prints, and it's in my top three. Yay!

Martyn said...

No problem Ben.

Ugh, just got home and so tired. I think i'll watch my lost episode for the week. Can't believe i've watched an episode of lost at least once every week since May-June. Ridiculous!

Limbofunk said...

I was on the site when they revealed Walt's Kidnapping, and through my stupidity, I didn't go for it. Oh the world of poster regret is a harsh world to live in...

Martyn said...

Actually, JFuller, if you're reading this, i'll still take that WK if it's on offer, please. Apparently it's my girlfriends favourite. I bet the love triangle I got her is just going to gather dust, I swear. Going to have to reclaim it I think, especially if she gets WK.

Martyn said...

@Limbofunk...

I was exactly the same, wasn't happy at the fact I was awake at 9am, but even more annoyed it wasn't one I could trade for The Swan Station. How wrong and tired I was, but problem fixed now, albeit an expensive fix.

My doodle says "Cluck Off" and I got a "detroit cobras" print as well.

Weinbeeezy-

Smellmysocks here. Just sent you an email in regard to the Locke Olly Moss T. I'm sure you are getting bombarded and thanks for the nice offer. Please email me back if you are still able to pick up a T for me and I'll send paypal payment. Thanks!

Eugene said...

Yes it is. But should you paypal him directly/. That way if he can't get it the refunds won't have to go round and round.

thorsten said...

Folks… this is a kind offer from Weinbeeezy, but remember that Zort did not want the blog to become a marketplace. And Weinbeeezy, since when do we know you exactly?

Cheers,
/t

Martyn said...

Ahhhh, will send the monies now then and then just let me know the postage cost and i'll pay you Eugene.

Eugene said...

@Martyn, Will do. Thanks.

@Thorsten, Sorry. Will cease and desist now.

Weinbeezy was the first person in line at the Gallery 1988 show.

And good afternoon to you all! :)

ObFuSc8 said...

Hey ARGers!

Youalleverybody have been busy even without a poster drop. Color me impressed.

I've a bit of not so great news about an uncle, so have been a bit tied up even though I am off work today.

You made me actually LOL with the gaffers tape, thumbtack and glue comments.

For a faster, more permanent fix, staple guns and nail guns really do the trick, but I have taken to using Dermabond (the medical adhesive we close skin incisions with) -- fantastic, permanent and sterile to boot!

Amy Lynn said...

I thought dermabond was for dentures.

kiwilostie said...

Martyn, favs huh? I know what your up to!! ;))
I will have a Richard Alpert thanks!

thorsten said...

Thanks, comixguru.
Welcome, Weinbeezy!
Hugs, ObFuSc8.

Martyn said...

kiwilostie, whatever could you mean? ;)

Weinbeeezy said...

haha sorry. i've been A SERIOUS lurker haha and i just never made an account!

haha FIRST IN LINE :]

Amy Lynn said...

Weinbeeezy, glad to "meet" you. Good job on being first in line. That is serious endurance.

Just Thinking said...

Thanks for the link Martyn- will check it out at home. The course is just the video, and I have read the reading list book- so won't make much difference if I look at it now or wait to try and get in. I just want to see it at this point, don't care about the credit. You get that by getting in and watching the video through as far as I can tell-so no head start in watching early in any case.

islandwales said...

off topic....

does any1 know how many of the swan armory combination codes are required for the current competition question?

nice

ObFuSc8 said...

Weinbeeezy -- awesome of you to do this and congrats on de-lurking and coming out of the shadows. Sounds like Castle Greyskull is pretty cool with tons of original artwork, too.

kiwilostie said...

Martyn, lol. I could still be off base, but I dont think so!
Now, to figure Bens tease out...! ;)

Martyn said...

Kiwi, you probably have a vague idea, yes. It's the execution that's key though!
