Tyler Stout LOST Poster Sale Delayed 487

I'm afraid we LOST fans seem to have broken a small part of the internet, please see the information below -

Hello,

So, due to increased demand and web traffic, i will no longer be selling stuff on tstout.com. THE SALE ON MY SITE (which is crashed) IS CANCELED. New sale instructions to follow. normally i hate changing plans in mid-sale, but i don't see tstout.com not being crashed for hours and hours to come, and i don't want you wasting more of your time refreshing it.

instead, i will relay sale information via this mailing list. So, now would be the time to unsubscribe (see bottom of this email, click SafeUnsubscribe and that's it, no more emails from me). if you're just interested in getting an email from me once every so often, this is not the mailing list to be on. it is only for those interested in getting constant sale instructions from me. during a sale week you may get up to 3 or 4. i hate doing it, but i can't keep up with the site crashings and emails from frustrated customers.

so, fair warning. i won't hold it against you if you unsubscribe. otherwise i'll assume you like getting several emails from me in a short span of time. no need to email and say 'keep me on your mailing list', just don't unsubscribe and you'll stay on it.

REGARDING THE LOST POSTER SALE
at 8PM TONIGHT PST (about 5 hours from now), i will send out an email to my mailing listers. in it, i will have the lost question. As well as the EMAIL ADDRESS to email your answer to. Please DO NOT email me at Tyler@tstout.com with your answer, i will provide the email address in the email.

it might be the same way for the phish poster sale tomorrow, so expect another email. and one Wednesday with the monster squad sale info.

my apologies to those of you that have spent the past 2 hours refreshing tstout.com. i have spent the past 2 hours trying to upload the lost info. this mailing list idea is to avoid wasting more of your time.

TONIGHT, 8 PM PST, check your email.

thanks again,
best
tyler

www.tstout.com

*i know these emails are lengthy and convoluted, the simple fact is i am just not that great at these poster sales. i like making posters, i'm just not great at selling them. i get a ton of email and try to answer everyone's questions, which is also why i pack all this info into emails, since i figure if i don't, people will ask them. thanks for your understanding.

Yes, Katie. I did what Sam suggested and bought an inexpensive poster frame. It's only temporary until I can get a better frame for it. I'm hoping to stumble across a bargain being that it's a darn big print to frame.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have to stop at target tomorrow anyways so hopefully they will have one in stock. Yeah my darn cat loves to chew on paper.

I got Ben framed at Michael's crafts for only 100 then I asked about Rousseau and Lost they said 300 for Rousseau (i did pick a fancier frame) and 400 for lost. My jaw hit the floor. I considered selling lost for a minute just to pay to frame Rousseau. Then I found a place online that I could get the frames I wanted for half price. (which for me is still a lot).

$12 for now is definately a better situation. I'm really glad I was lurking today otherswise in a month or two when I can frame Lost I may have had a meltdown.

I got Drew Millward's offer too- which was really pretty nice as I had tried to help another Lostie contact him right when the poster came out.She went to the reveal and wasn't able to try for one. I knew she said later though that the higher prices were too much-so I let it go. Sorry- I didn't see any of the regulars here looking for it last night.

I know Michael's has some very large frames

http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=fr0510&channelid=

27x 40

I haven't even thought about framing the Lost poster, since, it was the last one I got from the gallery

Hobby Lobby has some nice 24x36 frames premade for around $30-50 which isn't that bad

IWish said...

FYI... the Stout print is oversized. A standard 24 X 36 frame will not work. I had to go with the 27 X 40.

Jawapez said...

Has anyone received the Charlie's gig poster from Larry Rhodes? I emailed him a few days ago to check on it and haven't heard anything back. Starting to get concerned...

chaseter said...

As per dusty on L4L:

"Hey everyone - happy holidays! I got a bit backed up, my girlfriend and I had family in town for 3.5 weeks, things were a bit crazy. As I mentioned before, we hit 27 I believe sold, so the Ben print is in play. I will be dropping all of these tubes at the same time. I know it's been awhile and there is a reason for it as it pertains to the actual printing of these. I'm working on something with the printer, and they've been diligent in getting it right. If you'd like me to divulge here I can, but I'd prefer for it to remain a surprise (though not at the expense of upsetting anyone). This thing they're working on has delayed the printing a touch, though I think it will be worth it!"

I'll leave aside how I framed my standard sized prints for the moment, as I've gone into it before , and others tonight have recommended affordable alternatives. I will stress though, that putting a little more money into matting your print(and a frame to accommodate it ) can really show off your W.K. or your L.S. or J.C. the way it deserves to be ;)

But regarding over sized prints, here's an example using Tyler Stout's Inglourious Basterds poster - I plan to treat 'LOST'-which is the same size- the same way. Instead of a wood frame , I used metal. I got the frame on craigslist, almost new, for $30. And instead of a mat, I tipped the print on to a back mat (which was a simple sheet of oversized nice black paper, cut to size). Restickable adhesive used -no tape - and can be removed without damage the poster:
I.B. in 27x40 frame

...and what the hey, here's my Dharma Van as well, beside another Stout( that's the FotC poster we talked about, Martyn!):
Dharma Van in 22 x 28 frame

MiddayShadows said...

Oh yes, and the larger frame is a nice quality metal and glass -there are plenty of stores that sell cheapo "frames" that are all plastic.

XXXHardcore said...

Thanks for the HARDCORE advice, Midday! I have LOST, The Polar bear, and just bought Walt's Kidnapping yesterday, so I'm always taking note of the framing and mating tips for the day I frame them!

chaseter said...

If you have the money, of course go with uv non glare glass, acid free backing, and double matting. It looks beautiful. Here are two of my Tan prints that I just got back last week with all the bells and whistles:
http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/3711/img0206j.jpg

http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/1589/img0205ki.jpg

If you don't have the money right now or don't want to spend more on a frame than the print inside it, you can get really good premade frames and buy your own mats or accent it with black paper like Midday did and it can still look great. That can come handy when you get into the big prints like LOST and Midday's example.

That FOTC poster looks beautiful, I must have it now but I presume it's all sold out as it wasn't on their website :(

I noticed with that awesome IB (LOVE that film btw) that you had a white stripes poster too. The whale in the sea to be exact. Did you get that online or from the actual gig?

Midday, Excellent pics and advice.

Maven, That's one of the most perfect rainbows I've ever seen!

Oh and Zort reported we're over the $1000 on the Prize 9 Haiti Disaster Appeal! Fantastic.

Quiet print day today then.

Well done everyone who's donated! Over $1000 is fantastic :)

Morning Chris I need to get one more frame before I forget my polar bear in the tube ! He will be all curly if I don't hurry up. I need to put in my money's today for our Hatti fund. I'm glad someone answered the part of if we do each 5 bucks separate or all together. I had the same question.

MiddayShadows said...

Thanks Martyn!

Yes, that FotC poster sold out almost immediately on the merch site, when they released the all of the '09 FotC tour posters in November, all at once. Although thats where I picked up my DD, I actually got my Stout from Tyler's onsale in the summer the minute he put it up - sold out there instantly too. The good news for you is that , despite that, it's not too difficult a poster to get for under, say, $70.

You noticed my White Stripes poster, did ya. Little easter egg in the photo, there ;) Kudos. It's a Rob Jones, from their tour of Japan in '06. It's neat. Very small, but RJ incorporated a cool illo from an early printing of Moby Dick. (tangent - my opinion is that he intentionally used an image of a whale kicking human butt because of Japan's horrendous reputation for dolphin/pilot whale slaughter -so I like the political overtones to the image).I got it later from the W.S. merch store in '08 -lucky because it was a pricey poster by then, but they sold a scant few leftovers for $50.

Sorry , you got me rambling! Oh yeah, to answer your much earlier question from comments I just caught up on, I did indeed get W.K., early. No price diff though!

Thanks ChrisL!

Morning all!

DvdBos said...

Question.
LOST poster is 61x91cm, but here in Italy it's impossible to find frame for it at cheap prices.
I've found a 70x100 simple frame (just glass+base, no "borders").

I think that if I fix LOST right to the middle of the frame, it should be fine for that poster.. but.
What color do you suggest for the mat?
White or Black? Or something else?

thorsten said...

Black, grey or green, Davide. Green can push the jungle in an interesting way…

DvdBos said...

Mmm... Green is quite interesting.. Black is "the obvious way".. Is there anyone who already had it framed and can post a picture?
I'm searching for inspirations :D

DvdBos said...

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_N5VYaU-tcbw/SyhRZ4tzSDI/AAAAAAAAHfM/F0PuqPeFJXA/s1600-h/stout+lost+poster.jpg

Well, i know that it's the official one, but I think i'd like it best if it had a bigger frame and some kind of mat!

thorsten said...

Why don't you run it through Photoshop and try different colors for the mat?

Martyn said...

@Midday...

Ramble away! I enjoy seeing other peoples posters and the experience they went through. I think that's what makes a poster, the experience of buying it. I don't feel so much love for Scuba Girl I got from Methane Studios anymore because there's nothing attched to it, no feeling, I just bought it.

Japan White stripes gig? I thought it was a north America tour but, well you've got the poster so it must be Japan. I had tickets to see them back in 08 at the London O2 and was intent to rectify my mistake of not getting a poster from their 05 gig. In fact, any merch seeig as they are a "collectable" group. I got all their free cd-r's with designs by rob jones on them, cost me a fair bit but I picked up like £100 from the 4 of 11 I sold that I got from my gig. I remember the guy I took them off saying, they're blank cd's, you're not going to make any money from them. How wrong he was!

Anyway, they cancelled their 08 uk tour cus Meg got acute anxiety, probably because of that video circulating the Internet. So I was trying to get the magician poster from rob jones but last I heard he was getting a shipping estimate and then I ran out of money so I left it at that. For now.

Glad you got WK, is your personal lost collection complete or is there anything else you would like?

Seeing as you are a framing expert, or anyone else for that matter, how would you go about framing 16 CD-R's? I want to get it done in one frame and showing the cd's sticking out of their sleeves, as there's artwork on the disc.

Ok, now I've rabbled.

DvdBos said...

I'm trying thorsten, but it's the third time i open it :D it's pretty difficult to find the right commands, when you usually use paint :D

Martyn said...

Oh, and the dd you picked up off the FOTC website, not signed, right?

thorsten said...

just doubleclick the image and remove the background lock from it, enlarge the canvas so that you can see the background and add a layer below it. Select a foreground color in the color picker at the bottom of the tools palette. Then you can fill that layer with the foreground color by pressing ALT BACKSPACE ;))

MiddayShadows said...

@ Annie, I agree with Thorsten, green might be an interesting option since Tyler used greens(and blues) to interesting effect in the print - if green, I'd go for a deeper hue. If not, I'd go for black, myself -since I really like the result I got in the I.B. I posted. My humble opinion.

@ Martyn - The W.S. tour of Japan was actually in '06, and very short. Sorry to hear the gigs in your area were canceled. I got lucky and saw them summer of '07 - a month before they canceled the rest of their touring. Saw them first in '05 and although I was already a fan , they knocked my socks off, live!

Nice work getting those RJ cd-r's! That would be a complex framing job I think. Beyond anything I've attempted certainly. I did advise my sister on the framing of a few dozen art postcards she got in Paris, and it turned out very well. Just tiling them in a fashion you like, and simply tipping them on a complementary coloured backing mat, will look nice. Although I suppose in this case you'd have to consider protecting the cd's...hmmm...

MiddayShadows said...

Correct, DD was not signed from the website -either were any of the otehrs. They were signed if you got them from the artist.

Oh and as for my LOST collection, WK was a relief to get - my personal collection would ideally also include a few more actually - the Crash, and J.C.(again, long story), also, eventually, the Hatch and Ben.

Nice, ImAnnie!

I find this site gives a pretty good indication of what the final thing may look like. You can upload an image, change frame style, mounts, double mounts, it's a handy reference. Saves messing around too much with photoshop.

Not being unresponsive to the interesting posts, just really hectic today.

:)

Thanks for your picture!

IWish said...

I'd like to try two layers of paper backing. Can't hurt to try and see what it looks like...cheaper than buying an actual pre-cut mat? I would imagine that one can purchase uncut mat paper, yes? It would seem that this would be less expensive since no cutting charge is involved...not to mention more variety in color (shades).

Well, I'm hoping everyone is having a better day than I am. My all paid for trip to Japan in march has been cancelled because I was the only person to book it. Grand! Now trying to frantically rebook with another company.

Also my gf prefers walt's kidnapping to the love triangle, so I was going to sell the love triangle as I got it free in a trade and would whack it up for $50. But because it was free and I liked love triangle but not enough to pay for it, I want to keep it. So I now find myself £200 out of pocket, which coincidentally I need to rebook this japan trip.

And it's raining!

Not a good day. Imannie, I like the thin green line on you PS simulation, looks very good.

@Midday...

Thought it might not be signed. Oh well, still an amazing poster, especially for that price but I think you've converted me to the Tyler stout crash print more than DD. Jus looked on EB and you're right, not too expensive at all.

DvdBos said...

Martyn, take a deep breath and fix it all :)

Lisa-Maladylis said...

Martyn, take a deep breath, count to five. Then think of someone like me here stuck in the snow while your off traveling to Hawaii and Japan. I'm sure you will find a good trip, probably better than the last one. That's how it always works out when one thing is canceled, the next is better. Hope your day gets 10x better !!

Cheers for the advice and sorry for venting on here. I appear to have sorted it all out now, just gotta spend a day travelling accross the entire country back to Tokyo. Which means I have time to go to Ron Herman to start my aim to visit all the reveal locations from DCAAPB.

Anyway, yeah, guess it's back to work where I have to call an angry Irish women to tell her we haven't sent her, her jacket.

Hoping the x10 better starts now!

Patmc said...

@Martyn - feel free to vent... we're all like family here...

In regards to your desire to frame some CDs... I actually did that for an art project back in college. I used some foamcore board, and then used a blank CD as a guide, and used a very sharp exacto knife to cut around the CD. I cut at a slight angle so the hole was slightly smaller than the CD, so the CD would fit snuggly inside the hole when I was done. I ended up having to use the exacto to clean the holes up a little bit, but the results were pretty good. I laid the foamcore over some mat board, so the CDs wouldn't fall out the bottom either.

I tried to use a CD as a template to create a CD sized metal punch, so I could just use a hammer out better formed circles, but couldn't find a good source of the metal to form around the CD to make the punch. If you can figure out something to use as a punch, you could just hammer some holes in the foamcore, which would definitely be easier than the exacto method for 15 holes...

Hope that helps a little bit... but as always... you mileage may vary. :-)

Good morning to everyone else too! I'm in storm-prep mode like Martyn. Sun is shining... but we're supposed to have heavy rain this afternoon... and even heavier rain tomorrow, with near hurricane force winds and 25 foot waves on the coast! Thank El Nino for all this... :-)

Thorsten...

Yeah, that's the angry Irish woman I spoke to. Had a soft young voice bt old and wrinkly from all the frowning she's been doing as a result of her anger. Luckily, I got through to a nicer guy who was a hell of a lot more polite.
