Even if I did like it, my boyfriend wouldn't, I'm afraid.
Other criticisms aside (like relevance), it amuses me that so many people are squicked that it's a skull. :) But then I'm big into Halloween and have a lot of skull jewelry/etc.
I do think, looking at it more, that there are some small composition changes that would have improved it. But what do I know.
Total pass. I'd say this almost definitely means that the DD was only dropped because the new artists weren't doing very well in sale.
If the theory I posted earlier holds true, we all needa be here at 1:08 EST tomorrow. ;) At least we know for sure it's gonna be an artist we all know, next time.

Okay I was thinking this earlier, but now looked at Jeff Soto's site (I knew I'd seen him come up somewhere)...
I think these artists did not have enough time to work on their pieces. It just feels like they are not in top form, a bit like they're unfinished.

I don't mind the skull at all, but except for the Island at the bottom and the presence of black/white, not sure what about this says "LOST"?
That said, I did buy it, almost without thinking. But at this point will add to collection I guess.

Skull could be Adam or Eve... I think the flowers at the top, kind of look like the animation from Pink Floyd's The Wall... I like it! It's a buy for me! Of course... when is it not...? LOL!
His "Nature's Splendor" is amazing, I just wish he had done something very different for this.
soto shoulda done this with his paint brush as he's more known for his canvases and street graffiti.
At least it's a chance to pick up an actual Soto screenprint for $50...
I've never been a fan of Jeffs stuff. always a bit brutal for me.
But I can admire his detail. However, the Lost print seems very basic compared to what I've seen of his work before.
I have one ONE pet peeve when it comes to subject matter in posters, and that is the cliched overuse of skulls!!!
Also, if this can be interpreted as meaning there is no McPherson LOST poster, then this is ten times more horrible a development.
Black and white stones, or the scales or Senet or something would have helped. But then I wonder how much time they ha to pull this together, and how much of the season had aired at that time...
Oh man. You should never send a painter/giclee artist to do a screenprinter's job. I love Soto's work, but this poster looks totally phoned in. Uninspired color choices, awkward composition, and a missed opportunity to highlight one of the Island's most complicated and mysterious relationships. Can't believe there's no wine bottle or board game.

Usually I'm pretty much in sync with the crowd, but this time it looks like I'm almost on my own. Really liked this one immediately and picked one up. Thought the slow site was due to volume, but given the comments maybe not! :-)
Yeah, a senet game would have helped a lot.

Jeff does some amazing work. He is also going to do a poster for Pearl Jam on their current tour. This and the Burwell are going to look amazing in person.

See, and that's my problem with it--I don't know what/who he skull is supposed to be referencing.
I don't mind subtle, but I don't particularly like vague for no reason, and that's what it feels like for me.

I wonder how big a fan of the show Soto is, and if he kept this more generic to appeal to his fan base (despite the departure from what looks to be a typically cool style). Not sure what to think about this one...
I keep looking at it and keep saying 'nah'. Just not my style in the slightest.

Just checkout and put an high number on the box for the number of copies you want (like 500), there will appear a Warning message telling you how many are left
UP -- I agree. Love subtle. Since the black/white flowers are growing out of a hole in the skull, I could see it being Claudia but IDK, that doesn't do it for me. The dagger Dogen/MIB used to try to have Sayid/Alpert kill Flocke/Jacob would have been nice.
It might help to hear Jeff's take on his print. Bought it anyway with site suuuuuper laggy, so there's time for it to grow on me.

Midday, I am soooo with you on the Tara revelation.
Looks a bit masculine for a female skull, though it would certainly make the poster more palatable if it were indeed their mother. Either way, it doesn't change the fact that the lighting on the skull is not consistent with the light source coming from the island, making the whole thing look like two disparate images placed on a stock background.
Daniel Danger's ability to adopt a painterly style within the screenprint medium would have been a good example for Soto to follow. Do Over?
The intertwined black/white twins born from the smashed gray skull of their mother, flowers (what type?) emerging from death - one with a pointy center and the other rounded - each struggling to separate from the other, while encouraged to rebirth by the island's renewing glow. Seems like the image oversteps in to the border. Clearly an illustration full of metaphor rather than an artist's literal interpretation.
It may not scream Lost, but it might to a Lostie who looked at it long enough.
But when it comes to display, it's still a poster with flowers and a big skull in the middle.

I like skulls for Halloween decorations, not a print I plan to keep up year round. Bummer. It's very death metal, which I like in music, but not on my wall. Very disappointing print. I'd prefer my awesome baby Smokey/Jacob shirt as a print than this. Agree with everything said. On the island screams Lost and feels totally unconnected to the rest of the print. Such a missed opportunity here. No brothers reference, no wine bottle, no game, no weaving, even the statue or something candidates related would have worked.
Unless tomorrow's print goes up before 5pm EST, I'll miss it.
Right when they have us expecting the new artists just after 1:00 PST, they will drop Olly Moss tomorrow at some totally random time.

@Patmc, LOL. To me, the skull is pretty brutal, but at least it makes sense. Not sure what the blue starry background has to do with anything.
This might be my favorite poster of the entire series. Very surprised almost none of you like it. Come on, compared to Not Penny's Boat, which looks like a 2nd grader did it, this is a home-run!
TKI, I agree. Personally I prefer LESS literal interpretations; what's the point in simply redrawing (from photo refs, frequently!) a scene from the show?
That said, I think part of why people aren't responding to this is the composition. It's just off and it lacks punch. Which is really too bad, since I don't mind the concept and it's definitely the kind of colors I go for.
It's not that it's a skull- it's what you do with the skull. Is it funny or poignant? Or what?

Did soto do some stuff for the G88 Underground Art show? His other stuff is so dang cool - really with this fell into that style.
I'm pretty sure Soto didn't have anything commissioned in the LUAP.
Here's the thing, if he was give the story line far enough to know their mother's skull was smashed, then he surely knew about the wine bottle and the game. The bio-mom played such a small role, to have her chew up so much real estate in a cliche-ey way ... miss. I get it, I just think there was so much more to work with.

I've re-done the LOSTARGs header, and with that good night all.
I haven't bought one of these myself, I'm not sure it grabs me as being LOST.
There sure is a LOT of similar blue and green hues in these art prints this go round- including Kevin Tong's Lost Live posters. Yesterday's print varied a little with the browns...hope somebody throws some different colors in whatever prints are to come.
FYI: Damon and Carlton are doing the Top Ten on Letterman tonight. Damon just posted he was nervous taping it!

Matthew Fox did a pretty decent card trick on Letterman on Monday. And had a pretty good segment on Fallon yesterday. Cool, that in a unsual move, other networks aside from ABC are bringing a lot of attention to the finale .
That card trick was hilarious. In the beginning it seemed so failed but after, it worked out pretty well.

So, Jeff Soto is the final "new" poster artist. Gutted for ChrisL that it was Tara, maybe there is more to come. We'll soon see.
That leaves 3 posters, 3 known artists, one of which is definitely Moss or Stout, but could also be both.
It is quite exciting to come back at 21:08 BST (We get a minor 108 victory!!!) to see a new piece of art. TBH, it looks very, no offence to any of them because they are mostly very nice people, emo. The skulls and stars and i'm guessing the skull is reference to last weeks episode. It's not a very informative piece, just feels random to me. It shot in at last place of the posters for me.
But for lots of other people, it stands out as a great poster, for whatever reason they have or they see in the poster. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder, and if you bought this then you are a unique individual from the rest of us that passed on it ;)

Just watched last nights episode, the end is so close that I'm starting to feel pretty bummed out. What a ride it's been.
Also, really loving the Candidates Cave more now. Gonna have to push over Tong's prints and take 2nd place in my head. If it's still available next Friday, I may just buy it.

Really...this is one of the better posters yet....the light that is coming up from the center of the island, the thorny flowers that are entangled but struggling to pull apart, the smashed skull....kind of embodies the whole show. I am surprised so many people dislike.
This poster seems to be as polarizing as the episode that inspired it.
I like what I see and think I'll like it even more when irl. With a bit of a " step back" seems a tad more is going on in this print than Black vs white. Even a bit of the SouthWest Indian in the maybe red Coral and blue turquoise. Strange it is,,my dad had a very similar tattoo on his one arm..snakes instead of " flowers. I wish Soto was my dentist.
Yea,,this one is a bit difficult to look at right after rewatching WTDF. No fault of the print tho. Actually its a success.
True..where to hang this one...well,,as I said, Dad had a very similar tattoo,,and he also had a small porcelain skull with snakes coming out of hole in head..and he kept it in his " study". This print belongs in a " study"...maybe right over this computer.

Hmmmm. One of the easiest passes yet - the skull, island, black vs. white - I can see the symbolism, but just can't see it on the wall @ office or at home.
Although Jeff Soto is an acclaimed artist, I really would have liked to see him depict Smokey at the Temple.

This time round the most popular, Daniel Danger, took about and hour and half to two hours to sell out.
Of course that is no guarantee on how long any poster will take to sell out.

bought black rock and candidate cave....one of the pending charges fell off of my card....has this happened to anyone else? has anyone actually had the money withdrawn from their account for these two posters? are are they just pending charges still?
3 of my 5 orders have been charged to my card. From the 14th and 15th.
2 orders from 14th are Pending at GoMerch. Orders from the 15th, 16th, 18th are Preorder.
Who knows what that all means. Has anyone actually received anything yet?

The Black Rock & Candidates Cave still show as pending charges.
Demond transaction has disappeared from pending. But that means that it will be deducted tonight or tomorrow.
I just checked my order status at site, and Lost Live purchase shows as queued, the others show as preorder.

I too am hoping they throw in a big one, just to spur on sales of the others a little. As I said before, really hope the candidate cave is still available next Friday(Payday!!!) as I have really fallen for it. Roswell, 102 should be enough to last a week, right?
I asked GoMerch - they are waiting for lots of prints, including copies of the first ones printed. If people have receieved them, it's from limited stock they held. They drew my attention (pretty bluntly - they C&Ped the bottom text and put the relevant bits in bold) that orders can and will take 6-8 weeks to complete.
@Joe - Hopefully if they do try, they'll let me know when the card fails and I can put it on my other one (I used the wrong one by accident when the print went live - typical!).

Just a little quick sketch I did for fun this morning in a few minutes, while getting ready for the F5 madness, lol.
It´s a super simple example of what I´d have prefered to get for the Jacob & MIB print (well, kinda, just a sketch of the theme itself, of course, don´t expect a masterpiece):

Something like that but maybe at night and with Jacob and MIB by a bonfire. Jacob in a lighter (orange-ish) color, next to the fire, and MIB in a darker color, with the light barely touching him.
Ended up picking this one up after a long day of deliberation. I can see why people are turned off by the skull but after reading the artists blog post about it http://jeffsotoart.blogspot.com/2010/05/lost-poster-claudias-skull.html I think it's actually quite a powerful image. About to get some sleep/wake up every hour to check for new prints. Heres hoping tonights doesn't sell out as I sleep through it like The Black Rock did.
Off to the gym so that I'm all ready for another afternoon of F5. I really hope this one drops early like Danger, because I might have to leave before 1:08PT. Fingers crossed....

I ordered a couple of T-Shirts, Skull by Dr. Romanelli and Smoke by Brandon Rike and I received them yesterday. They are excellent looking LOST t-shirts. I really like the Skull t-shirt and of course Smoke t-shirt looks really good.
As far as the "skull" print goes, I read the artist's blog on it and it's starting to grow on me.
Here's hoping for a stout kind of day.
